Five Films for February 7th, 2022
1. Death at a Funeral (Netflix)
I selected this film because today is Chris Rock’s birthday. He was born in 1965 and is a talented comedian, actor, writer, producer, and director. This is a fun remake of the original 2007 film.
Alternative Title to Watch - Head of State (Paramount Plus) - Chris Rock directed and stars in this 2003 film.
2. The Butterfly Effect (HBO Max)
I selected this film because today is Ashton Kutcher’s birthday. He was born in 1978 and has starred in several film and television series. I feel that this underrated film is one of his best.
Alternative Title to Watch - What Happens in Vegas (Amazon Prime) - Ashton has made quite a few romantic comedies and I feel that this one co-starring Cameron Diaz is one of the better of the bunch.
3. Pinnochio (Disney Plus)
I selected this film because it was on this day in 1940 when the Disney classic Pinocchio first premiered.
Alternative Title to Watch - Pinocchio (Amazon Prime) - This 2020 reimagining of the Pinocchio story stars Robert Benigni as Geppetto.
4. The Watcher (HBO Max)
I selected this film because today is James Spader’s birthday. He was born in 1960 and has been starring in film and television for more than 40 years. This thriller co-starring Marisa Tomei and Keanu Reeves is another underrated film in my opinion.
Alternative Title to Watch - Tuff Turf (Amazon Prime) - This 80’s film co-starring Robert Downey Jr. is worth the watch for those who have not seen the film.
5. MLK FBI (Hulu)
Another film I’m including for Black History Month is this 2020 documentary based on recently declassified files concerning the FBI’s surveillance of Martin Luther King Jr.
Alternative Title to Watch - The Uncomfortable Truth (Amazon Prime) - This 2017 documentary regarding the history of racism in America is worth a watch.
